Although my trip was two months ago, I’ve decided to finish the videos that chronicle the epic journey. (There will probably be a epilogue episode after this one.) At the end of Episode 4, I had just gone to sleep at the historic Parry Lodge in Kanab, UT, 60 miles north of the Grand Canyon. For those that don’t remember what happened in the last episode, I’ve embedded Episode 4 underneath Episode 5. You can find the earlier episodes on my Youtube channel. Enjoy.

(I recorded footage to make this a video episode, but lack the time to edit it, so I’ll just go with a traditional writeup.)
Here in the Future Garage, we have a tradition of taking new and unfamiliar vehicles and working them hard. Like the time that Jeff and I rode two up to San Jose to buy a cleaner-than-bleach VFR800 for his dad. We hadn’t “owned” the bike for half an hour before we were flogging it through Four Corners like the devil was hot on our heels. Consider it a hazing for new members of The Future.
Our newest pledge, Scrump, had to be put through the process too. I had been meaning to hit up the drag strip for a while, but the Z was never comfortable enough for me to want to drive up to Sacramento. I noticed, though, that Wednesday the 25th was the last day of Wednesday Night Drags for the year, so I decided to take the Mini up and put it through it’s paces. Since it was the day before Thanksgiving, I didn’t mind going out, and my sister was in town too, so I thought we could enjoy it together.
Long story short, it was a grueling evening. Because of Thanksgiving traffic, it took us three hours of heavy traffic to get up to the racetrack, and once we were there it was super cold outside, and we only got one baseline run in before we were eliminated in the first round of bracket racing. After that we only got one more run in before we were too exhausted and couldn’t wait to leave to rest and find food.
